The structure of pour-flush latrine is similar to that of ventilated improved pit latrine. In pour-flush latrine there is a U-formed water seal, which prevents flies to enter and odours to form.The latrine is flushed with a couple of liters of water after every use. Pour-flush latrine can be used when water is needed for cleaning purposes, enough water is available and ground is permeable.

It is particularly useful in places, where use of water is culturally determined, as in India.
