Atrocities on women are on the rise in society and women should wake up to know their responsibilities in the male dominated society, Ms Sushma, President and Co-Ordinator of the Ad-hoc Commitee Against Violence on Women said today.

Briefing media persons regarding the outcome of a seminar organised here on Sunday to discuss the
problems faced by women, she said Ms Sara Abubekkar, well-known Kannada writer, in her inaugural address said that women are no longer the weaker sex and all women organisations have to condemn atrocities and violence against them. Dr Safra Begum, Reader in Tamil said women are largely targeted in domestic violence.

Around 400 delegates attended the seminar. The seminar has taken a few resolutions to combat
violence against women. It has taken a serious note on rape on minor girls, suicide events, Vanenur
incident, alleged sexual harassment on Adivasi women by STF and BSF Jawans in the borders of
Karnataka-Tamilnadu, attack on garment employees in Peenya industrial area and alleged police excess against the G K V K girl students while protesting giving a piece of land to BT park.
The Organisation is planning to bring out a newsletter that would contain reports on sexual harassment, rape incidents, legal matters and complaints registered in the Mahila Sahaya Vani. It has planned camps in villages to create awareness among the people.
