On 18th January 1982 the two ahd a half lakh workers of Bombay's 60
textile mills went on strike. For the next 18 months they defied
all predictions of early defeat. Disregarding conventional wisdom
they refused to retreat. This effort resulted in the biggest and
longest strike in the history of India.
Yet, a struggle of such magnitude rapidly faded from popular memory.
Those who remembered dismissed it as a failure. But was it a failure?
This is the story of thousands who once stood on the threshold of a
new tomorrow and dreamt about changing destiny. It is an account
of why the struggle was waged and how the dream faded but survived.
