Sub: Calendar of Training Programmes, Seminars, and Workshops - 2005 - 2006 1. The Indian Society of Health Administrators, (ISHA) is a public association of professionals and administrators interested in health and development. It was established in 1979. Its primary objective is to help bridge the gap between the actual and desirable state of health services in India through development of health professionals and administrators towards effective management of resources. It wishes to achieve its objective through annual conferences, training programmes, research studies, and publications. For the last twenty-three years, ISHA has been organizing 40-50 training programmes each year. About 120,000 professionals and administrators have so far participated. ISHA has also been conducting one-year hospital administration programmes through its several regional chapters. 2. We are happy to announce the Training Programmes, Seminars, Conferences, and Workshops scheduled during 2005-2006 at the national level. This folder gives the details. Besides these, ISHA is scheduled to conduct a large number of programmes to meet the needs of the Central Government, State Governments, International Organizations, Public and Private Sector Industrial Organizations, Corporate, and Private Hospitals. 3. These programmes are for senior medical, health, nursing, non-medical administrators, and executives in government, private, and industrial organizations, health professional training institutions, voluntary, and international organizations. 4. There is a nominal fee for the training programmes which covers faculty, course materials, stationery, lunches, tea/coffee, certificates, group photographs, and field trips. Concessional fee is charged to Life and Institutional Members of ISHA, and voluntary social organizations engaged in community health. The programme brochures give further details, which are printed three months in advance, and mailed out to all interested individuals, and organizations. Due to administrative reasons, some programmes may be deferred or re-scheduled. Kindly do not send the participants in response to the calendar but only in response to the brochure, after getting confirmation from ISHA. If a participant shows up in response to our calendar, we are not responsible for inconvenience. And, no letter will be issued. 5. A Brief PerspectiveThe Indian Society of Health Administrators, (ISHA), established in 1979, under the Karnataka Societies Act, 1960, is a premier professional association with over 5,000 professionals, scientists, and administrators as individual members. Over 300 national institutions, public sector industrial organizations, professional bodies, health and medical departments of State Government are institutional members. Its primary role has been in health manpower training, health systems development and policy formulation. It conducts nearly 50 training programmes each year in which over 200,000 professionals and administrators have attended. It works closely with the Planning Commission, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, World Health Organization, UNICEF, FAO, UNESCO, World Bank, State Governments, and South East Asian Countries. ISHA has carried out policy level studies, evaluation of national health programmes, and assisted the State Governments in the implementation of national programmes as well as strengthening infrastructure resources. It has brought out 65 publications for health professionals, managers, policy makers, and organizational leaders. Many of these books are translated in foreign languages. ISHA has contributed a great deal to industrial development in India. It has been working with the Central and State Public Sector Industrial Organizations and Private Sector Organizations in training and development of manpower; conducting studies on organizational health, mid-career planning of managers; personal effectiveness of chief executives; retirement planning programmes; Occupational health and mental health in industry; alcoholism in industry; innovation and productivity programmes; stress related disorders; hypertension and cardio-vascular diseases in industry; post-retirement adjustment programmes; rehabilitation programmes in industry, corporate planning and organizational structure for productivity organizational renewal and rejuvenation programmes; and economic feasibility studies for diversification and acquisition. Towards competency building ISHA conducts large number of training programmes for medical and nursing personnel for effectiveness of health care, patient satisfaction, quality assurance, and professionalization of health services so that medico-legal cases are minimized. ISHA has started one-year correspondence (distance learning) programmes in the fields of (a) Hospital Administration (b) Nursing Care Administration (c) Counselling Techniques (d) Managerial Effectiveness, (e) Legal Aspects of Health Care, (f) Public Health, and (g) Disasters and Emergencies Management.
