Regional Training Program in Peacebuilding & Development
Colombo, Sri Lanka

Organized by Peacebuilding & Development Institute in Sri Lanka in Partnership with American University's Peacebuilding &  Development Institute in Washington, DC

The Peacebuilding & Development Regional Training Program provides practical experience and skills for scholars and practitionersworking in conflict and post-conflict environments in South and Southeast Asia. The program will focus on various approaches to mediation, negotiation, facilitation, dialogue, and conflict-sensitive humanitarian practices in the region. Participants will explore innovative methods of promoting cultural diversity while expanding their knowledge and skills in a participatory and interactive learning environment. The trainers are internationally recognized leading professionals from the fields of public policy, peacebuilding and development.

The spirit behind this training is the highly successful training program in Washington, DC that the Peacebuilding & Development Institute, at American University, has been conducting for the past six years. Each year, this program welcomed nearly 200 participants from all parts of the world working with organizations such as the UN, USAID, Oxfam, CARE, Mercy Corps, as well as grassroots NGO field staff, and other foreign development agencies. Interaction between these various sectors assists in strengthening the regional peacebuilding network of practitioners.

This professional training program in Sri Lanka will provide a regional and local perspective to peacebuilding and development.
Participants will engage in a week of hands-on training to explore the opportunities and challenges faced by practitioners.

Participants choose from one of two training sessions offered weekly, and are encouraged to attend as many weeks as possible.
