Capacity Building Programme 2007
Development
Alternatives (DA) is one of the world's
first social enterprises. DA has been working on the issue of
sustainable development for the past 25 years. It has during this time
accumulated a vast and in-depth experience and expertise in the field
of livelihood and its related themes and issues ranging from technology
to environment to social action. The organisation has been sharing its
learning and experiences in various platforms. Capacity building is one
of the areas in which DA has a stronghold due to its hands on learning
at different levels ranging from its on ground direct field work in
Bundelkhand and through partners in other states of India and to its
influence at the policy level - at the national and international
circles.
Trainings
Systems Group a
programmatic theme within DA is dedicated to see that capacity building
is a process for dissemination of the knowledge and experience it has
gained and also as a space to hear and learn from the experience of
other players in the sector.
TSG
today conducts standard or customized training on
more than 50 themes and regularly adds new themes to this list. This
can be broadly classified under 4 heads:

Introduction
Trafficking
is a global violation of human rights and
yet it is prevalent within countries, across borders, regions, and
continents. Migratory populations are extremely vulnerable to such
exploitation. However, since this has been a low priority for law
enforcement agencies, development agencies need to play a proactive
role. If skills are developed in the area livelihood promotion and a
comprehensive understanding of the issues to trafficking and the
vulnerable poor are developed impact can be very positive.

women and trafficking along with ways of combating it.

Participatory Livelihood Assessment Techniques (13th,
14th & 15th September 2007)
Introduction
Participatory
Livelihood Assessment Technique (PLAT) is
an effective method for ensuring participation of different levels of
stakeholders in any project related to livelihood promotion. It has
been evolved by Development Alternatives over time and yields positive
results if implemented in a methodical and strategic manner with the
underlying element of flexibility. It aims at fathoming the critical
gaps in livelihood promotion and weighs them against feasibilities to
reach a logical conclusion whereby after analysis, a sound action plan
or strategy for development can be drawn.

Micro Enterprise Development

Introduction
Micro-Enterprises
play a critical role in the economic
development of any economy, but particularly so in those economies
which are undergoing a transition from the traditional subsistence to a
modern industrial economy. In India, the micro and small industries
sector has a long historical tradition and since independence has
contributed significantly to the overall economic development of the
country.
Given its
employment pattern, growth, geographical
dispersion and contribution to total industrial output, the micro
enterprise sector will continue to play a significant role in
eradicating poverty and promoting higher levels of gainful employment.
Development organizations have begun playing a very crucial role in
promoting micro-enterprises. Hence skills pertaining to development of
micro-enterprises must be acquired by them.
