    Harvesting solar power in residences
    .
    With ample sunlight almost around the year, one possibility is through use of solar energy and other renewable energy sources to generate electricity to meet the needs of residential buildings in Chennai. At an urban scale similar initiatives could be undertaken to provide solar powered streetlights and other public facilities. Delhi government has decided to pass an order for compulsory use of solar power for advertising hoardings and water heating in government and some categories of buildings.

    Tidal power debut in Bengal
    .
    Bengal is set to get the first tidal power plant in the country. A tidal power pilot project has been sanctioned on the Durgaduani river in the Sunderbans. The solar power project to give light to the Sunderbans will be introduced in Jhargram, West Midnapore, and Darjeeling.

    The greening of Paris
    .
    In a dense urban context, cars are the most inefficient system of transport, creating traffic jams and needing more and more parking space. The car culture in the city had to be replaced by alternative systems of transport, a goal that was challenging not only in terms of providing these systems but also in terms of inspiring a change in the habits of Parisians.
    The New Mobility plan for Paris focussed on five significant initiatives: The Mobilien Bus Rapid Transit system, the new tramway, the Carte Orange for easy access, the recently introduced Velib public cycles and lastly, the idea of car-sharing. Some of these were new ideas, some involved improving existing systems and some, the reintroduction of old systems such as the tramways with improved technology. The built environment of Paris governed the location of each system and together, they created a network that served the entire city

The Tech Museum rewards outstanding and innovative projects, which leverage new and existing technologies to benefit mankind and solve some of the planet's most basic problems.

    Solar power to light up City
    .
    The Centre has identified Bangalore and 59 other cities and towns in the country for large-scale shift to solar energy to power street lighting.
    According to a plan drawn up by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Bangalore and the other identified cities will be developed as model solar-powered cities in cooperation with local municipal bodies.
