RESEARCH POSITIONS IN PROJECT ON WATERSHED DEVELOPMENT
The Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Environment and Development, Bangalore is looking to recruit researchers at the level of Research Associate or Senior Research Associate in a project on "Long-term Impacts of Watershed Development in India". This is a multi-locational and multi-disciplinary project in collaboration with the Gujarat Institute for Development Research, Ahmedabad (GIDR) and Society for Promoting Participative Ecosystem Management, Pune (SOPPECOM). Applicants should have strong natural or social science training (including, e.g., Agricultural Economics, Rural Sociology, Agricultural/Civil Engineering, Agronomy, Forest Management) with demonstrated capacity and interest to carry out interdisciplinary research in the area of natural resource management (NRM) particularly, watershed development in India. .
Qualifications Necessary:
Essential
a.. PhD, or Masters degree with 5 years research experience, in the area of natural resources management
b.. A good understanding of the current debates in NRM, particularly watershed development.
c.. Good writing skills in English and willingness to learn Kannada Desirable
d.. Prior experience in interacting with NGO's or activist groups
e.. Fluency in Kannada and/or experience of field work in Karnataka
Nature of Work: The appointed person will work under the overall supervision of the faculty at CISED, but will be expected to work independently and manage the research and outreach activities in Karnataka State. S/he will primarily be expected to: (1) lead team of researchers (research assistants and field investigators), both from social and natural science backgrounds in field research studies, analysis and reporting (2) liaison with NGOs/individuals in case study areas, and (3) carry out project management and reporting activities.
Appointment and Emoluments: The appointment will be on a contractual basis, initially for a period of one year, extendable to a total of 3 years. A longer term appointment is contingent on performance and/or availability of suitable research assignments. CISED's package of emoluments is competitive with other academic institutions in India. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
