WHAT IS JVA ( JAN VIKAS ANDOLAN)?

JVA is a National Coalition of Organisations. NGOs, concerned individuals and other networks working towards an ecologically sustainable and socially just future.
The main objectives are to: Jan Vikas Andolan is a broad platform consisting of individuals. NGOs. Peoples movements. Networks like VANA. APA, People and Organsiations working in the following areas: Gender. Dalits. Environment. Communalism. Land Rights. Patents and Intellectual property issues. Globalisation.

The following is a short outline of our work up to now:
  1. In 1992. JVA coordinated the nationwide effort to observe the NIYOGI week and martyrs day on 28th Sept 92 to highlight the vision of the legendary trade

    NIRMAN.
  2. Struggle to protect forest lands: JVA worked with other organisations and Networks, to lobby and advocate against the proposed Forest Bills, and was
also part of the effort of developing an alternate Forest Bill. This Bill incorporated the {Progressive features of the National Forest Policy and the
Forest Conservation Act to protect the interest of the tribals and rural poor.
  3. JVA promoted a series of meetings to work out an alternative to the Sardar Sarovar Project. JVA also brought out a booklet: "Water for Gujarat: An
    alternative".
  4. JVA supported the national effort to pressure the central government to implement the Bhuria Committee report and. Provisions of Panchayat
(Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act. 1996. which gives the tribal communities, especially the Gram Sabha. greater control over their common property
    resources
  5. JVA contributed to the National campaign against the land acquisition (amendment ) Bill 1998 and is working towards a people oriented alternative
Act in the form of Land Acquisition and Rehabilitation Bill.
  6. JVA has been in solidarity with several struggles.

In the wake of the onslaught of globalisation and corporatisation. JVA commits itself to further concerted action both against destructive development processes as well as consolidate the alternatives, grass roots level initiatives. And this we can do only with your renewed support.
