Subject: [cr-india] Workshop announcement in Andhra Pradesh

    Dear friends,

The Deccan Development Society (DDS), in association with Community Radio Forum, India  and  carried out with assistance from UNESCO, announces a residential workshop on Operationalising Community Radio for NGOs working in Andhra Pradesh from October 11-13, 2007.

As many of you know, after a decade-long struggle by civil society organizations, media activists and policy advocates, the Union Cabinet has
finally opened up the airwaves to grassroots groups through a community radio policy in November 2006.  The new policy allows community-based organizations with a track record of development work to apply for a FM radio license, with transmitter power of up to 100W, which could serve people residing within a 15-20 km radius.  The Community Radio Forum-India (CRF-India), with modest support from UNESCO, is organizing a series of regional-level workshops for creating greater awareness and contribute to building the capacities of communities to set up radio stations that would be community-owned and managed, and run on a not-for-profit basis.

The workshop being organized by the DDS will focus on introducing Community Radio (CR) as a development tool to NGOs working in Andhra Pradesh. It will equip organisations with technical information as well as details of the application process for initiating the process of establishing CR stations in their region and including CR as a meaningful tool for social change in their area.

It will also provide basic hands-on experience of operating radio at the DDS Community Radio Centre at Machnoor village, Jharasangam Mandal, Medak District, AP.

Organisations interested in participating in the workshop may kindly email Jayasri at hyd2_ddsppvr1@sancharnet.com or General Narsamma at
    communitymediatrust@gmail.com or call +40-2776 4577 or 08451-282271 by October 5, 2007.

The details of the workshop are as follows:

Venue: DDS Krishi Vigyan Kendra Campus, Didgi Village, Zaheerabad Mandal, Medak District, AP.

    Dates: October 11-13, 2007

Time: 09:00 AM to 06:00 PM

Organisations interested in participating need to bear their own travel costs, while boarding and lodging will be arranged at the venue and covered by the CR Forum of India.
